12 Prophecies of the Birth of Jesus

We see these prophecies fulfilled in the first couple of chapters of Matthew and Luke.

1 – Seed of a Woman

Genesis 3:15 (And the Lord God said to the serpent) And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

2 – Descendant of Abraham

Genesis 12:3 (God speaking to Abraham) And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 17:19 And God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed; and you shall call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Genesis 22:18 (God speaking to Abraham) And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.

3 – Descendant of Isaac

Genesis 26:4 (God speaking to Isaac) And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

4 – Descendant of Jacob

Numbers 24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel…

5 – Descendant of Judah

Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and to him shall the gathering of the people be.

6 – Descendant of Jesse

Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

7 – Descendant of David / Throne of David

2 Samuel 7:12-13 (Nathan is giving David a message from the Lord) And when your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

8 – Conceived of a Virgin and Born of a Virgin

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

9 – Born in Bethlehem

Micah 5:2 But you, Beth–lehem Ephratah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

10 – Called out of Egypt

Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

11 – Children of Bethlehem Killed

Jeremiah 31:15 Thus says the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

12 – A Messenger

Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight: behold, he shall come, says the Lord of hosts.
