Destruction of Jerusalem

Found in Matthew 24:15-28, Mark 13:14-23 and Luke 13:20-24. Each gives some unique information to the account.

When you shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation of Jerusalem is near. (Luke 21:20)

Mark 13:14-17

But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him who reads understand,)

Matthew tells us that place is “the holy place,” the temple. (24:15)

Then let them who are in Judaea flee to the mountains:

The gospel of Luke adds, “And let them who are in the countries enter not therein.”

And let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter in, to take any thing out of his house:

And let him who is in the field not turn back again to take up his garment.

But woe to them who are with child, and to them who give suck in those days!

For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. For there shall be great distress in the land, and there shall be wrath upon this people. And this people shall fall by the edge of the sword, and they shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Luke 21:22-24)

Mark 13:18-23

And pray that your flight is not in the winter. For in those days there shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom the Lord has chosen, he has shortened the days.

And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; do not believe him: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

But take heed: behold, I have foretold to you all things.

Matthew 24:26-28

Wherefore if they shall say to you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall the coming of the Son of man be.

For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
