David’s Lord

Matthew 22:41-46
(Also found in Mark 12:35-37 and Luke 20:41-44)

The Pharisees were gathered together.

Mark tells us this event took place “while Jesus taught in the temple.”

Jesus: What do you think of Christ?  Whose son is he?

Pharisees: The Son of David.

Jesus: How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool?  If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

Mark says “the common people heard him
gladly.”

No man was able to answer him a word. Neither did any man dare  ask him any more questions from that day forth.
