Woman with an Issue

The woman with an issue of blood is told in three of the
four gospels.

Matthew 9:20-22 And, behold, a woman, who was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Woman has a disease
An issue of blood
She has had this problem for 12 years.
She came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his garment What was her reasoning? She said within herself…If I touch his garment, I will be made whole (healed)
Jesus turned
He saw her
He spoke to her
She was made whole from that hour

Leviticus 15 – Unclean discharges from the body
Vs 25-27 Woman with an extended issue of blood

Genesis 31:19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father’s.

Genesis 31:34-35 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not. And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before you; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.
Rachel said she was having her monthly flow. Because of this, her father searched the tent for the images but would not search the furniture on which she was sitting. It was considered unclean.

Mark 5:25-34
And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing better, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, she came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said to him, You see the multitude thronging you, and you say, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said to her, Daughter, Your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole of your plague.

This woman had suffered tests and treatments at the hands of
the physicians
She had spent all of her money on doctors
She was not any better, in fact, her problem grew worse
When she heard of Jesus, she came
In the press (many people around Jesus)
She touched his garment
Straightway the fountain of blood was dried up
She felt the healing
Jesus knew in himself that virtue had gone out of him
He turned about and asked Who touched my clothes?
Disciples said You see the crowd thronging you, how can you say, Who touched me?
He looked round about to see her that had done this thing. Woman fearing and trembling, Fell down before him, She told him all the truth
–confessed
He spoke to her. Be whole of your plague.

Luke 8:43-48
And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stopped. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng you and press you, and you say, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared to him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. And he said to her, Daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you whole; go in peace.

Jesus asked Who touched me
All denied
Peter (and those who were with him) said the crowd is pressed against you
Jesus said he felt the virtue go out of him
The woman saw that she was not hid
She declared to Jesus before all the people
(1)for what cause she had touched him
and (2)how she was healed immediately

Look at the scripture around this story:

Where was Jesus going when the woman touched him? He was on his way to heal a girl who lay dying. Her father was taking
Jesus to his home where the girl was lying.

What happened? The girl died. One from the household came and said, Don’t trouble the master any further. Your daughter is dead.(Don’t worry, Jesus raised her from the dead!)

How important was this woman with the issue to Jesus? Important enough to take time with her even though he was on his way to do something very important.

How does this apply to us?
–When you hear of Jesus, come to him
–When you reach out to Jesus, You will be changed/made whole
–You will feel the difference
–Confess to him
–Give your testimony – Why you came to Jesus and what has changed
